1982: OPIC Repays the U.S. Government

In the early 1980s OPIC returned its original start-up appropriations totaling $106 million to the U.S. Treasury. In 1982, Craig Nalen, then President of OPIC, met with President Ronald Reagan and presented the president with a check for $50 million.

The following year another check in the amount of $56 million was presented to Treasury Secretary Donald T. Regan.
