Workers assemble a wind turbine in northwestern PeruWorkers assemble a wind turbine in northwestern Peru as part of the largest wind farm project in South America outside of Brazil. OPIC is in the process of structuring a $193 million OPIC loan to ContourGlobal Ltd. for the project, which will provide vital energy to a country that has enjoyed strong economic growth during the past decade but lacked the energy investment to match it: from 2000 to 2010, electricity demand grew by more than 70 percent while installed capacity grew by only 40 percent. The turbine pictured is one of 62 under construction which will help generate a total of 114 megawatts of power to the country.
