The market was created by ContourGlobal and is one of the ways the power company has supported local communities while developing a power plant. The Lomé Thermal power plant, which has tripled electricity capacity in one of Africa’s poorest countries, was built by ContourGlobal and supported with OPIC financing and political risk insurance. OPIC’s Office of Accountability recently visited Togo and the plant to collect feedback from Kanyikope and two other communities on how to most effectively provide problem-solving and compliance review services if conflicts arise between communities and OPIC clients. These consultations were part of the Office’s ongoing process for updating its procedures, which also includes an opportunity for public comment.
