OPIC Signs Agreement with Peruvian Investment Agency
LIMA, Peru – Strengthening its outreach to prospective U.S. investors in Peru, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) and the investment promotion agency of Peru concluded an agreement that will enhance cooperation between the two agencies and better inform U.S. businesses about OPIC programs in the country.
OPIC President and CEO Robert Mosbacher, Jr., and David Lemor, executive director of ProInversion, the Private Investment Promotion Agency of Peru, signed the memorandum of understanding establishing the outreach program.
The agreement empowers OPIC staff members to train ProInversion personnel to inform prospective U.S. business investors of OPIC programs, and services, as well as screen potential investors and projects.
The MOU signing comes during Mosbacher’s first visit to Peru, where a growing economy offers fresh opportunities for U.S. private sector investment.
“In signing this agreement, we recognize the positive steps that Peru has taken to expand its economy, attract foreign investment and provide fairly for its people,” Mosbacher said. “Increased investment by American companies will not only create opportunity and wealth for both nations, but will also serve as a reminder of the strong bilateral ties between our two countries.”
OPIC is the U.S. Government’s development finance institution. It mobilizes private capital to help solve critical development challenges and in doing so, advances U.S. foreign policy. Because OPIC works with the U.S. private sector, it helps U.S. businesses gain footholds in emerging markets catalyzing revenues, jobs and growth opportunities both at home and abroad. OPIC achieves its mission by providing investors with financing, guarantees, political risk insurance, and support for private equity investment funds.
Established as an agency of the U.S. Government in 1971, OPIC operates on a self-sustaining basis at no net cost to American taxpayers. OPIC services are available for new and expanding business enterprises in more than 150 countries worldwide. To date, OPIC has supported nearly $200 billion of investment in over 4,000 projects, generated $74 billion in U.S. exports and supported more than 275,000 American jobs.
