As a leader in Impact Investing, OPIC aims to support businesses of all sizes address common development challenges such as access to education, housing and healthcare as well as financial inclusion and climate change. OPIC created the Portfolio for Impact (PI) program to facilitate financing of highly developmental and innovative early stage projects.
PI is a pilot program designed to support smaller impact projects that have significant potential to have a positive social impact, but fact a number of challenges in obtaining financing.
The two-year, $50 million program will support a select group of small, high impact projects that meet eligibility requirements. OPIC will support these projects with loans from $1 million to $5 million with a maximum tenor of 10 years.
OPIC will underwrite and monitor these projects individually and as part of a portfolio in order to effectively monitor and mitigate risk. The program aims to build a diversified portfolio of between 10 to 30 small impact investment projects.
OPIC will consider projects that meet the following criteria.
Geography: All OPIC eligible countries; preference will be given to least developed countries (LDCs) andpost-conflict countries.
Target Sectors: Water, sanitation, housing, healthcare, agriculture, education, renewable energy, financial services as well as other sectors where projects can support positive social impact.
Target segments: Priority will be given to projects that target low-income populations and provide economic livelihoods for vulnerable populations.

The PI application process is the same as the standard process for applying for financing at OPIC. Deals will be designated as PI projects after the application is reviewed.
