In the Brazilian rainforest, a farmer climbs a tree to harvest açaí berries to be processed at a nearby facility. Sambazon, Inc. used OPIC financing to build an environmentally sustainable, organic açaí berry-processing facility, making it possible to process the berries before they spoil and helping generate income for about 10,000 local farmers.

Sambazon, which has also supported conservation in the rainforest, was honored with the President’s Award at the 2016 OPIC Impact Awards for excellence in development.
