Did you know: Women drive the world’s food production
Did you know women make up the majority of the agricultural labor force in many developing countries, and are often unable to manage or own the land on which they work? The majority of the world’s poor are farmers and many of them are food insecure, often they maintain just a single acre of land and struggle to produce enough food or earn enough income to feed their families. OPIC partnered with New York-based One Acre Fund to provide training and quality seeds to support these very small farmers in Africa, who are often based in hard-to-reach remote areas. In Malawi, Bertha Machiza planted groundnuts with help from One Acre Fund and improved her yields. Working with women to provide resources and training is helping them grow their way out of hunger and poverty.
