Meet the Women of OPIC: Lynn Nguyen
March is National Women's History Month, a time to recognize the contributions that women have made to our nation. Everyday throughout the month of March, we will feature one of OPIC's 126 women employees in our Meet the Women of OPIC series. Learn about our diverse workforce and what inspires them to work for the Agency.
Acting Vice President, Investment Funds
Tell us a little about yourself:
I have spent the last 20 years at OPIC in various credit and investment roles. In my current role, I manage the Investment Funds department which makes investments in private equity funds in emerging markets. Earlier in my career, I held various roles in banking and the financial services sector in Singapore and the U.S.
What do you like best about working at OPIC?
It is the best job in government, let me count the ways: (i) we have an interesting and diverse client base spread throughout the U.S. and the world; (ii) the work I do at OPIC make a difference to the success of U.S. companies, foreign businesses and people in less developed countries; (iii) the countries, over 160 of them, need I say more?; (iv) the OPIC team is diverse and an interesting group of people; (v) OPIC’s foreign policy mandate and our ability to pivot quickly to meet US Government priorities is the most interesting part of my job; and finally, (vi) the great work-life balance although I have clocked really early and late hours and an occasional weekend.
Is there a woman who has inspired you?
Amelia Earhart: “Please know that I am aware of the hazards. I want to do it because I want to do it. Women must try to do things as men have tried. When they fail, their failure must be a challenge to others.”
How do you inspire other women?
I hope I inspire the women and girls in my life to work hard, make a difference, lead a life full of achievements big and small, have many adventures, break records and have the time of their life because in the end all you can hope to bring with you is the immense satisfaction of a life well-earned and well-lived.
Will you share an interesting fact about yourself?
A great love for the backcountry, the Northern Hemisphere and winter activities such as mountaineering, snow/splitboarding and ice-climbing. Some peaks I have climbed or boarded include: Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Rainier, Mt. Pico, Mt. Blanc and the Drakensburg. If I break a few bones falling off the side of a mountain, it would be well worth it.
