Meet the Women of OPIC: Patricia Simmons
March is National Women's History Month, a time to recognize the contributions that women have made to our nation. Everyday throughout the month of March, we will feature one of OPIC's 126 women employees in our Meet the Women of OPIC series. Learn about our diverse workforce and what inspires them to work for the Agency.
Tell us a little about yourself:
I retired from the US Navy after serving 20 years as a Cryptologic Technician (Administrative) and have over 20 years of experience working in the security field. I joined the Federal Government in 2015 working for the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) until I joined OPIC as a Security Specialist in August 2016. I have a BA in Psychology from the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) and two teen aged daughters, 13 and 15.
What do you like best about working at OPIC?
The opportunity for both personal and professional growth.
Is there a woman who has inspired you?
I am inspired by mother who was the first person in her family to attend college and the first African American women to be hired at the company where she worked out of college. She taught me to read and write prior to attending school and gave me her love of books.
Will you share an interesting fact about yourself?
I love the water and would like nothing more to spend every day at the beach in the ocean. I’m an adventurous person who loves to travel and am willing to try almost anything once.
