Ellicott Dredges: Restoring Electricity and Irrigation in Iraq

Print this Page

Country: Iraq
Sector: Infrastructure

Challenge: Renovation of Iraq’s hydroelectric dams; supporting American small businesses in challenging emerging and post-conflict markets.

Solution: OPIC provided political risk insurance to Ellicott Dredges LLC of Baltimore to support the sale of its American-made dredging equipment to the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity.

Impact: As the dredging progresses, Iraq will be able to more efficiently supply electricity to its citizens, improve flood control for cities and villages in river valleys, rejuvenate irrigation systems for farms, and ensure navigation for river traffic.

In 2014, Ellicott was awarded an OPIC Impact Award in the American Small Business category.
