Print this Page

Country: Senegal
Sector: Power Generation
Challenge: Like most countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, Senegal suffers from extreme power shortages and one of the country’s major power plants required rehabilitation to enable it to provide a reliable source of power.

Solution: OPIC committed up to $100 million in financing to ContourGlobal to support the construction of a 53 megawatt power plant in Cap des Biches, Senegal on the site of the old plant. The project is part of the U.S. Power Africa initiative aimed at doubling the number of people in Sub-Saharan Africa who have access to power. OPIC has also partnered with ContourGlobal on a major power plant that has tripled energy generation capacity in Togo.

Impact: The plant will provide an efficient and reliable source of electricity to the Dakar grid.
