OPIC Offers Financing and Political Risk Insurance to Support American Businesses Looking to Expand into Emerging Economies Worldwide

WASHINGTON – The Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), the U.S. Government’s Development Finance Institution, will host an Expanding Horizons workshop in Boston, Mass. on Wednesday, October 14 at the Westin Boston Waterfront. OPIC’s outreach to U.S. businesses through Expanding Horizons educates attendees about opportunities in developing markets, presenting a full day’s agenda offering tools to enable business growth.

Expanding Horizons is a unique opportunity to hear directly from U.S. Government officials about programs that support U.S. companies entering developing markets. Regional companies and entrepreneurs will learn about OPIC’s finance and insurance products and how to take advantage of the resources OPIC offers to gain access to emerging markets overseas.

Participants will have the opportunity to arrange one-on-one meetings with OPIC and other government agencies. Joining OPIC will be officials from the Small Business Administration, U.S. Trade and Development Agency, U.S. Department of Commerce and the Massachusetts Export Center.

Since its establishment in 1971, OPIC has helped U.S. businesses of all sizes expand internationally, and today is open for business in more than 160 countries. OPIC has supported nearly $200 billion of investments throughout its history and operates on a self-sustaining basis at no cost to American taxpayers.

OPIC’s $3.5 billion of financing and insurance to Massachusetts businesses in sectors ranging from manufacturing to energy to infrastructure technology supported $2.6 billion of U.S. exports and nearly 10,000 U.S. jobs.

Expanding Horizons workshops have educated 3,000 U.S. small businesses and entrepreneurs since the program’s launch in 2006. Small and medium-sized businesses interested in expanding into developing markets are encouraged to attend, and can register at www.opicevents.com.
